Introducing… The Spaceship

We built a mobile recording studio in a Ford Transit van

If you’ve been reading the newsletter, you know this van build has been underway for a minute now and consuming a LOT of energy and attention. I’m proud to say we are up & running! Still some finishing touches to apply, but all systems are a go!

Essentially we can pull up anywhere and do anything! We’ve already recorded music in Boston, Idaho, and California, plus a few months worth of LFOD Radio broadcasts.

Next up is our Alumni Cypher, which we’ll be broadcasting LIVE from Hoop Hop on August 21st at Malcolm X / Washington Park.

We’ll be collecting all van-related content on this page here: creations, how-to videos, events, etc.

Let us know if there’s something you’d like to see!

LFOD Radio Ep. 152 (Featuring Kay Wattz)

Kay Wattz x LFOD

Kay Wattz slid through LFOD to talk about the dirty money circulating in Boston, her hustle & dedication, and what it means to live authentically. The crew also answered the question “When did you fall in love with hip-hop?”, spurred by her song of the same name. And you know we got some #ExtraBars in here as well.

JoE GrizZley (Shotyme, J. Jordan, & Floyd) are active all over New England, both performing and throwing shows of their own. The boys were not shy as they discussed their experiences, opinions, and approaches to life & music. We hit the ground running and crammed a LOT into this hour.

LFOD Radio Ep. 122 (Featuring TonyWhiteDDM)

About a year ago we were talking about Big KRIT and Pimp C when our phone started ringing. We patched the call through and were greeted by Mr. Tony White. He had just moved up from Maryland and had some opinions of his own. Not only that, but he was a rapper as well. After he hung up, he sent us a few records and we liked what we heard. We’ve kept in touch since and finally were able to bring him on air for a proper introduction. This would’ve been cool for those reasons alone, but he had a lot of knowledge to share as well. Artists, you could learn a lot from this conversation.

LFOD Radio Ep. 117 (Featuring Vylette Music)

Vylette Music joined Alex & Sam to discuss 100, her blend of R&B and hip-hop, Boston roots, and her creative family. We also went down a DMX rabbit hole and discussed her Keyser Soze record as best as we could without spoiling The Usual Suspects. Great movie, great interview. Stay tuned for #ExtraBars and the #RapUpRecap from Seti. We’re back next week with Jansport J.

LFOD Radio Ep. 115 (Featuring Block to Booth)

Block To Booth is on a mission to revolutionize the studio service experience by bringing it right to your front door. We met Sensei Swagg & Umazi at MECon 2018, where they first told us about their vision. It’s been dope watching it evolve since then, growing to include a web series and promotional platform for artists as well. With Season One filming this weekend, the timing was right to bring them in for a conversation. We also learned a bit about their individual backgrounds: Sensei’s adventures as a Brooklyn kid learning to rap, Umazi’s experience as an international activist, and how their two paths brought them together. The positive energy these two radiate is contagious…

LFOD Radio Ep. 114 (Featuring REKS and Shortfyuz)

REKS & Shortfyuz are dropping Order in Chaos this Friday, September 14th. The two of them called in from Logan Airport on their way to tour Europe. This was our fourth convo with REKS, so we built off the previous ones and got a bit deeper into his mentality when it comes to moving through the music biz. We also got a preview of what’s to come on their new album, followed up on The Greatest X, and heard why they still hold Scientifik in such high regard. Catch them in a city near you this fall.

LFOD Radio Ep. 113 (Featuring Du-Karan)

Welcome to Season V!!! Teya, Tashawn, and Sam are back to kick the season off with Du-Karan, fresh off the release of his new album, 9. The album explores new ground both sonically and emotionally so we dove into the motivations behind that shift, as well as the hazards of living with expectations. Though this is his first solo podcast, longtime listeners will remember Du-Karan from previous live appearances and for his role in launching our #ExtraBars series.

The Fourth Annual Alumni Cypher Series

#AlumniCypher

Every July we invite all our past guests back to rhyme live on-air with their fellow MCs. This year we had four cyphers with over 20 artists. For the second year, we partnered with The Beat Club Podcast to provide them with instrumentals to flex on. Watch all four cyphers above and hear us recap our favorites below.
