LFOD Radio 7.6.21 – Heat Check

LFOD Radio 7.6.21

It’s July! That means we’re halfway through the year already… What? Talk about flying by. With that in mind, it felt like a good time to look (listen?) back at some of our favorites from the year so far.

Most of these records reached us via submissions or word of mouth, so if there’s someone we need to get in the mix, let us know! Comments work or Twitter/Instagram.

All of these songs have been featured in past mixes so if you hear something you like, there’s a good chance there’s a few more artists you’d enjoy in our archives. You can scroll through those below.

We’ll be live again next Tuesday at 10pm, both streaming right here and on 91.5FM in Boston.

If you can’t tune in live, you can subscribe to our newsletter to have new episodes and more delivered right to your inbox.

ENERGY – That’s the theme for this week’s show. These are some of our favorite records of the last six months or so… Make sure you tap in with these artists! They’re tagged on our Twitter & Instagram. A lot of these records have videos too; we’ll be sharing those in this week’s newsletter.

This is also the first mix from the van!! Put in the floors this week and a bit of insulation, so thought it was worth a go. Sounds pretty good already… can’t wait ’til we’ve got the walls up and fully treated for sound.

We’ll be live again next Tuesday at 10pm, both streaming right here and on 91.5FM in Boston.

Artists – send us your records.

We dropped a new interview with Jasper Brown this week as well. Peep his #ExtraBars below & check the conversation here.

First things first – Rest in peace Earl Simmons. This is one of those situations where what’s understood doesn’t need to be explained, so I’ll leave it at that.

We’ve had a lot of artists patiently waiting for us to spin their records, so that’s what this week’s mix is about. Last round of submissions was full of melodies – we kept it a bit more bar heavy this time around. Artists, you can hit us up whenever. In addition to these mixes, we have a weekly newsletter where we share your videos.

We’re also pretty active on Twitter & decent at Instagram as well. Always here for the conversation.

Speaking of which – Next week our show falls on 4/20…. What are you trying to hear?

If you missed our #24in24 episode, you can relive that here.

A Conversation with Doe Cigapom

DC native Doe Cigapom talks gogo, hip-hop, gentrification, education, & more

Pre-COVID flow right here. Last year started with an LFOD road trip & Sam traveling from city to city meeting artists that ya’ll recommended. The homie TonyWhiteDDM strongly recommended we link with Doe Cigapom while in Atlanta.

Though he resides in Decatur now, Doe’s story is that of life in the District of Columbia, Chocolate City, Washington, DC… He played drums in gogo bands growing up, experienced the extreme changes his city has gone through over the years, and found solace as an educator and MC.

We got into all of that and more in this convo. Watch the video above, catch some bars below & connect with Doe Ciga on Instagram for more.

As always, we’d love to hear your thoughts as well. Comment below, on IG, Twitter, or send us an e-mail. Whatever’s clever.
