Lightfoot Beats Interview w/ LFOD

Lightfoot Beats x LFOD – From the vaults! On October 25th, 2019 the Hipstory homies took over the MFA Boston for the Hipstoric Night at The Museum II. What a night! I believe the final head count was over 1,000 people. It was not too long ago that hip-hop was struggling to find venues in Boston. Very excited to get back to the momentum that was rolling pre-pandemic…

We were able to sit down with a few of the artists who performed that night. Our interviews with Loman & Stiggity Stackz are embedded below, but right now we’re partying with Lightfoot. This night was a party indeed, but we caught up with him shortly after his *third* set of the night. You see the coffee…it’s probably 10pm at the earliest. Great convo – we talked in depth about his process & philosophy regarding art and why Rilla Force is the best producer ever, with lots of laughs in between.

What’s Lightfoot been up to in the meantime? Well, he drops new music almost daily on Instagram, TikTok, Twitter… wherever you want to hear it. He just released a new album, Camp 4 at the top of the year, as well. And there’s most definitely more to come. Stay tuned.

We’d love to hear from you, too – Comment below, on IG, Twitter, or send us an e-mail. Whatever works!

Our Top Shares of 2020

Cakeswagg

Cakeswagg has been lit all 2020, dropping bars every Tuesday for her fans. Tap-in.

We’ve been sharing more music than ever this year. We’re on the radio every week dropping new mixes, we tapped in with artists across the country for Season VI of the LFOD Radio podcast, and we launched our submissions form to make it easy for ya’ll to send us your art. When we say ya’ll, we mean artists, fans, and everyone in between. It’s been dope connecting with so many different people this year.

When we hear/see something, we say something! We do most of our sharing on Twitter and Facebook where we can post links, but there’s some gems on our Instagram as well.

We looked back through the analytics and put together this list of our audience’s favorites from January through November 2020. Some of these may be brand new to you, others could be welcome reminders… It’s been a wild year – not easy to keep track of all that’s happened.

Let us know what you think! And if you’ve got something you’d like us to share, we’re here for it!

And now the music… No particular order.

Caliph – Jog Your Memory/Melanin

Alex Place popped up in one of our IG Lives with his laptop and brought this one to our attention. Dope video. Caliph did his thing on the new SuperSmashBroz record as well.

K.A.A.N. – The Escape

K.A.A.N. (Knowledge Above All Nonsense) popped onto our radar heavy this year. We shared a few of his videos, but this was your favorite!

Open Mike Eagle – I’m a JoeStar

Not gonna front like we knew what a JoeStar was before this hit our inbox, but a lot of ya’ll definitely did and we have a much better idea now. From Open Mike Eagle‘s Anime , Trauma, and Divorce.

Boston Hip Hop: Do You Know these Artists?

Oompa
Oompa

Before we begin – Not all of these artists are from Boston. There’s talent all over New England, but people from outside are much more likely to Google “Boston Hip-Hop” or “Boston rapper” than Lynn, Cambridge, Brockton, Massachusetts, etc… We’ll make it clear where each artist is from in their section but if we want to see growth, we’ve got to meet folks where they’re coming from. Right now, Boston is the window through which we’re seen. Long-time followers know that we #RepNewEngland all day.

Following that logic… Peace! You’re probably new here. Welcome. Our goal since the beginning has been to create a platform for independent artists while uplifting our community. We’ve done that mostly through in-depth interviews and FM Radio, but there’s still a lot of ground to cover. Boston media has been much more receptive to hip hop lately & has been doing a good job providing coverage. However, they can only focus on a handful of acts at a time. Nothing wrong with that! It takes a lot of repeated exposure to break an artist. And we rock heavily with the names you’re seeing in the spotlight these days. Still, we wanted to expand and shine a light on a few more folks as well.

We’ll be writing a bit more in the weeks to come… Any requests? We’d also recommend subscribing so you catch the latest news. Big moves on the horizon…

Last but not least, huge shoutout to Graduation Music, Miixtape Chiick, & TheMUSEUM TV for their heavy blogging over the years. Killerboombox is a great resource for the culture, as well. It takes a lot of work to keep up with all that’s going on up here. Salute.

And now, the artists…

Artistry & Activism

It’s hard to even put into words how we’re all feeling right now. We wanted to have that conversation, though. What does it mean to be an artist right now? What are our roles in pushing social change? What can we do and how do we make a difference?

Rilla Force, Lightfoot, Brandie Blaze, CakeSwagg, Dart Adams, Kadeem, and Pronzy talk about all these things and more in the above video. There is also a transcript below, if that medium is better for you.

This is only the beginning of the convo… Let us know if you’d like to be involved in future talks, other topics you’d like to hear discussed, or information we could help you find. And please share with anyone you think could benefit from viewing.

Be safe,

Sam

LFOD DAY!

Alright, it’s time to see what these digital concerts are hitting for… We’re excited to announce our first lineup & what’s shaping up to be an exciting evening.

June 3rd is 6/03, 603 is the NH area code, and NH is where Live Free or Die (LFOD) began. So every year, we like to celebrate. We’ve had barbecues, raffles, exclusive gear, etc but this is the first concert! We’ll be broadcasting right from LFODDay.com or you could tune in on the platform of your choice (YouTube, Facebook, Twitch, etc).

Not only are we fans of these artists, but we’ve interviewed all of them over the past few years, as well. Lightfoot’s is actually still unreleased (stay tuned), but you can learn a lot about him right on his Instagram. Get familiar via the links below:

Pop in and vibe out! Hear new music, make new friends, maybe win some merch… who knows what’ll happen. It’s live! These can be tough to keep track of, so we’d recommend setting a reminder in your phone now.

See you on the 3rd!

On March 25, 2017, we collaborated with 24 of our favorite artists to record 24 songs in 24 hours. #24in24 is the result. We’re incredibly proud of what we accomplished & excited for you to hear it.

The album features new music from Paranom, Seti Tzu, Mertz, RAYEL, Lotus Taylor, Macedo, Reks, Tashawn Taylor, Chronic Tone, Noel Pancho, Time & Lepp, Casso, Bugout (Granite State), Ryan Easter (The Trap Music Orchestra), PRANO, Bad Decisions Collective, M-Dot, STL GLD, Bakari JB, MIKE WING, Tim Nihan, CODY POPE, Ant Thomas, and Darius Heywood.

Huge shoutout to JT & The Electric Cave for the inspiration and to Alex Allinson, Lightfoot, The Arcitype, The Bridge Sound & Stage, Table Manners, Mass Apparel, Lord Hobo, Booger Money, Stolen Spirits, and Unreal for making this all possible.

LFOD Radio Presents: The AR Classic Update

Last night we were joined by The Arcitype (who you may remember from past episodes with Esh & STL GLD) & Lightfoot, who just launched The Shift, a new series taking place at Mass Apparel. Every two months a featured producer will take over the store for eight hours & make a beat tape on the spot. When the shift is up, the shift is up & the tape is released immediately. Really cool concept. Next up is Billy Loman.

Listen to Lightfoot talk about The Shift below, as well as a bonus convo with Arcitype about his label, AR Classic, and recording studio, The Bridge, which has become something of a hub for New England Hip-Hop.

Listen below or on your favorite podcast app, whether that’s Apple, Spotify, Google Play, Stitcher, etc… We also broadcast every Monday at 9am on 91.5FM in Boston.

New episodes every Tuesday. Subscribe to get them right away.
